“In the last few months Lam has been giving all his time to pottery and hardly paints at all. He hopes that by the end of 1976, he will have produced about 500 pieces. Some of them have already been exhibited at the Albisola Ceramics Museum…



His passion for ceramics is, I think, a response to deep, secret motivations. He has rediscovered in it one of mankind’s oldest creative activities. Being the result of the marriage of earth and fire, pottery may be seen as the combination of spirit and matter recovering, in the alchemist’s use of the term, their identity. For Lam, therefore, pottery is not just a secondary activity. Since it conveys the significance of his forms, it is, just as much his painting, the manifestation of his world.”
