 Ania Toledo: Landscapes Forever
Exhibition Dates: 06/29/2004 - 08/21/2004
The first U.S. solo exhibition of oil paintings by contemporary Cuban landscape artist ANIA TOLEDO.
The exhibition opens at Cernuda Arte with a reception on Friday, July 2, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Landscapes Forever presents twenty eight works dating from 2002 to the present. The exhibition is accompained by a color illustrated catalogue, with a critical essay by Professor Justo J. Sánchez, entitled, "Et in Arcadia Ego: Places of Enchantment". The artist who resides in Cabaiguán, Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, has been granted permission to travel to Miami to attend the opening reception.
Born in 1957 in Cabaiguán, a province of Las Villas in Cuba, Ania Toledo has participated in exhibitions in Costa Rica, Spain, Greece and Cuba.
As Justo Sánchez says in the catalogue's essay, "Ania Toledo travels and discovers herself in the intimate landscape, in the evocative niche of the idyllic tropics. The light for this Cuban painter creates a dramatic energy within a placid environment as it divides the picture planes... There are moments where the lyricism of mist and an uncertain light takes Ania Toledo to the realm of poetry... With academic rigor, the romantic tradition in hand, and an enlightened ecological conscience, Ania Toledo brings Arcadia to the tropics."
