Mariano Miguel was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1885. He studied art at the studios of Mariano Benlliure and Cecilio Plá. In Spain, he worked at Sopena Editorial as an illustrator. At age 19, he travelled to Havana where he later occupied the job of Artistic Director of the presitigious newspaper Diario de la Marina. In 1919 he was named to a teaching position at the San Alejandro Arts Academy, where he occupied various teaching posts in the Schools of Landscape, Drawing, and Etching.

Mariano Miguel was a founding member of the Association of PAinters and Sculptors of Cuba, in 1916. He presented his artworks at numerous exhibitions in Cuba, Europe, and in North America. In 1904 he won an Honorary Distinction in the Spanish National Exhibition in Madrid; a Silver Medal at the International Exposition of Philadelphia, in 1926; and a Gold Medal at the Ibero-American Exposition in Sevilla, Spain, in 1930.
